Here I’ll list some things that I’ve learned that will probably give you a clearer idea about marketing with videos and how to create the best videos you can.

Before we make a video one of the first things we have to do is to think about why we’re making the video in the first place. Is your goal to:

• Get traffic for your website
• Make money
• Brand yourself
• Teach something
• Convey a tip or trick you learned

You also have to think about what you want to film. Is it going to be a product, a website, you on camera at an event such as a marketing seminar?

Also think about how you’re going to shoot the video. What frames do you want? Do you want to create headshots, what background do you want to use?

Using proper lighting to create quality videos

Lighting is also very tricky. I can’t count the times that I started watching a video but couldn’t really see the person because of the lack of proper lighting.

Shooting Videos Outdoors

I watched a talk with a video marketing guy who said that we should test 5-10 different lighting techniques in order to get it just right.

We should do this test before we begin the actual filming process so that we don’t have to worry about the lighting. I’m sure you’ve watched a lot of videos that were recorded outdoors and those work very well. The only problem is the sound!

Test the sound that you’re producing on your videos

We have both watched videos where we had to strain to her the person speak. What really makes me laugh is when someone is 30 feet away and the microphone is on the video camera!

When you’re testing the lighting it’s a good idea to test the quality of the sound on the video. You don’t want it too far and you don’t want it too close so testing is important.

When the microphone is too close to the mouth what you hear is a lot of static. Especially when the person says a word that begins with a ‘P’.
