How to Build Backlinks With Product Reviews

How to Build Backlinks With Product Reviews

I know I haven't been posting lately and I want to apologize to my readers. There are a few reasons why I've quit posting every day on this blog one of which is that I started a press release blog.

I've been writing press releases and figured I may as well get paid to write content and publish that content on a blog. It's working so far!

At any rate, I lifted the following link building article from ineedhits.com.

We all know that link building is an important step in any search engine optimization campaign, so in this post I’m going to show you how product reviews can help build extra links to your website.

If you’re planning on launching a new product (or want some exposure for an existing one) getting reviews about your product can be a great way to build new links. The best part is that review links are often deep links to individual product pages on your website which can be quite tricky to get.

The first step to getting your product reviewed is to reach out to people who are active in the blogging community or own a website related to your industry.

One of the best ways to find people is through twitter, as it allows you to reach out to these people without the “spam” label you might get if the same communication was sent over email.

When contacting new users, don’t talk about links right off the bat, try and discuss their company, website, an event or something else they might be interested in.

Link Building Hand & Hand
After you’ve developed a relationship with the person, there are a couple of angles you can use to give your product exposure.

Ask if they have any upcoming events which you can ask to sponsor. Offer to send them a free sample of your product to review on their website/blog.

Enter or sponsor any competitions they are running. You can suggest for your product to be included in the competitions prize pool.

It’s also important to remember that aside from providing links to your website, positive reviews will actually help to improve your conversion rates.

One of the possible drawbacks to this method is that your product might receive a negative review.

For this reason it is important to use this strategy carefully on products that you feel are leaders in the marketplace for one reason or another.

Link Building Strategies
If you’re reading this link building strategies article and watching the videos below you understand that link building is a smart SEO trick.

A good link building campaign can help you rank higher with the search engines by increasing your link popularity.

The videos below present different link building strategies that you can implement today. Pick one strategy until it’s completed and then start on another one.

It may take a few months but with a plan in place you could be riding high for your keywords.

Using directories and other sources to build links

The first video has a link building strategy that stretches out over several weeks. He begins by using directories and ends with blogs.

Directories are still a great way to get backlinks as long as they have a good Alexa rank and an editorial review board.

Link Building Strategies By Guru Bob - Internet marketing video

Guru Bob will walk you through using Web 2.0 properties to build links to your site and using article marketing.

Article marketing is one of my strategies. I recently submitted an article to the E-zine directory and it’s already been picked up by a few people.

My link is still in place so that’s good SEO link juice for this blog. Article marketing is a good way to get a few hundred backlinks quickly.

Link Building Strategy - Get Right Anchor Text - Internet marketing video

This video talks about getting the right anchor text when building links on other websites. He shows how to make a website rank with keywords just by using anchor text and no on-page optimization.

He also talks about a former president and the anchor text, ‘miserable failure’. A lot of blogs linked to the Whitehouse with that term so that when people typed in miserable failure into Google the Whitehouse would come up on Google.

Link Building with Questions - Internet marketing video

This strategy is pretty cool. He talks about getting backlinks by asking people questions to find linking opportunities.

He also says that we have to train our minds every day to look for potential link building opportunities.

There’s a little trick he mentions to get EDU backlinks and links from non-profit organizations which usually carry a high rank.

Internal Links | Link Building How To

Internal Linking Flow Chart
Internal links can help you if you want to make your website more SEO friendly.

This link building how to video will explain why internal links are important to search engines when they crawl your website.

One of the things that a search engine does when it arrives at your site is to look at all of the links on your page to index them and rank them for your keywords.

Internal links can also be considered a backlinking strategy because the search engines will see them as backlinks, or to put it better, the search engines will see them as one of the stronger backlinks to a site.

One of the best examples of how strong internal links can be is Wikipedia. Almost every page on that website has more links to other pages. Wikipedia ranks very well on many keywords so this should be a good example for us.

The video also examines Wikipedia’s internal linking strategy as a link building how to.

Internal links and External Links

Internal Links Flow Chart
Internal links are links that are on your website that link to other pages on your website. External links are different; they are links in your website that point to other websites.

External links are also good for SEO because they tell the search engines that you know where to send readers for more relevant information. So you’ll tend to rank higher for external links as well.

Internal links should be
  • Used as anchor text for your keywords
  • Intermixed with the content on your site
  • Able to open in the same window
  • Relevant to the page

Internal Link Building

A link to another web page looks like this:

a href="the-url-here.com">Anchor text here

To create your link just replace the “the-url-here.com” with the url of the web page you want to link to.

This step isn’t necessary if you have an HTML editor but it does pay to have at least some basic HTML knowledge.

The anchor text should be your keyword.

Internal Links v. External Links
Try not to write ‘click here’ as anchor because that tells the search engine nothing when it crawls your site.

For example, if I’m writing a blog post about red snakes and I have another post on my blog about long red snakes, the anchor text words should be: long red snakes.

The benefits of internal links on your website

When internal links are done properly, the search engine will pick up on the links on your page and realize that you have ‘additional’ information related to red snakes.

What I try to do is to find all of the relevant pages on this blog and link them together. It’s a lot of work and a pain in the butt, but it is worth the effort.

At the bottom of this page you will see the additional links.

I promise you that you will be smiling when you see your website on Google’s first page. Adding the internal links also adds relevant content to your current page without you having to write any more content.

Using a sitemap as an internal linking strategy

Using an XML sitemap for search engines and an HTML sitemap for your human visitors is a great way to create strong internal links for your website.

Your readers get the benefit of being able to find content quickly and the search engines get to crawl your site faster and more efficiently.
