Face Book Advertising

So you want to advertise on Facebook. Well, here's the Nitty-gritty on Face book advertising in today's market.

Facebook is in almost every home in the United States and around the world. There are more than 500 million users on Facebook that see Facebook advertising every day.

Facebook ads and Google AdSense work much the same way. They both use Pay Per Click ads. But there are some differences though.

With Facebook you can narrow your ads to any specific demographic.

If you want only men between the ages of 25-30 to see your ad, there’s an app for that. You can also choose by location and interest.

With Facebook advertising, targeting keywords is optional because ads are delivered directly to the target audience on their fan pages and news streams pages.

Advertising on Facebook
Another benefit of using Facebook advertising is that there are fewer advertisers competing with you. This will cost you significantly less with a pay per click campaign giving you a higher ROI.

The best part is when people “Like” your advertisements because that goes straight to their friends’ news streams giving your ad more exposure.

There have been very successful ads that have gone viral on Facebook.

In this article I will walk you through the five steps necessary to plan and benefit from Facebook Advertising.

The steps I’ll talk about are these:
  1. What Are Your Goals?
  2. Who is Your Audience?
  3. Design Your Advertisement
  4. Establish Your Budget and Pricing
  5. Track the Data!
Let’s start working.

What Are Your Goals for Advertising on Facebook?

The first step to a positive Facebook advertising campaign is to give some thought as to what you want to accomplish. What do you want to do exactly?

Is it:
  • Drive traffic to a website or blog
  • Drive traffic to your Facebook Like page or Fan page
  • Purchase leads
  • Augment sales for a product or service
  • Generate awareness and increase brand exposure
You may want to focus on all of these goals and I don’t blame you. Who wouldn’t?

But it is belter to be specific. This will help you produce the

most successful ad possible.

It’ll also help you make the right decisions when establishing your budget and choosing your audience specifications.

Who are the people that you want to advertise to on Facebook?

One of the great things about Facebook advertising is that you can be incredibly targeted.

Remember when you signed up for a Facebook account? They asked you a lot of questions such as, who are your favorite sports teams and rock stars.

They even asked you what books you were reading.

It is this information that Facebook uses when targeting your ad. You can get as targeted as you need to in order to reach your potential customers.

Say, for example, you want to target women in the age range of 40-50 who live in the state of Ohio. You can do that on Facebook. They have that information.

Design Your Advertisement

There are four elements to every Facebook advertisement and you will have to make decisions on the kind of information that you want each element to contain.

They are:
  1. The website address of where you want to drive the traffic to when a person clicks on your ad. Where do you want them to go? A sales page? An opt-in page? Your fan page?

  2. Headline - on Facebook your headline is limited to 25 characters, counting spaces.

  3. Ad text – This is where you include a call to action. You have 135 characters to achieve this goal.

  4. A graphic – choose an image that relates to your business. The maximum image size is 110 pixels wide by 80 pixels tall.

Facebook Advertisement Budget

Advertisement Budget
After you have created your ad and picked your target market you’ll be asked to set your budget and pricing.

Here are the decisions you’ll have to make:

Pricing Type

There are two different pricing types on Facebook. They include:

Cost Per Click (CPC) - A type of campaign pricing where you pay each time someone clicks on your ad.

Cost Per Thousand Impressions (CPM) - A type of campaign pricing where you pay based on the number of people who view your ad.

Daily Advertising Budget

Your daily budget is the highest amount of money you're willing to apply on an individual campaign each day.

Tracking Your Data

Facebook offers analytics and data information so that you can test and track almost every aspect of your campaign.  You will know which ads are getting the best result and then duplicate the process.
